People across Lincoln County are reporting they felt an earthquake at about 1 p.m. Sunday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake has been confirmed.

The earthquake was about 4 miles from Paint Lick, near the Madison-Garrard County line.

Ella Curlis said she felt the earthquake in Stanford.

“Felt like someone ran into my house,” Curlis said.

Others on Fairgrounds Road also said they felt it, along with many in Lancaster.

Joanie Berry House said she also felt it on the west side of the county in Moreland.

Residents in Danville also reported feeling the quake.

“I live in Danville on the lake and it was like 3 different booms of thunder. We were actually outside when it happened,” said Shae Elam.

Bluegrass 911 Communications posted on Facebook shortly after 1 p.m. that they had received calls and alerted Emergency Management agencies.

“If you are injured or have structural damage please call 911,” the post said.

According to USGS, the depth of the earthquake was 8.6 km.

Gov. Andy Beshear said the damage should be minimal.

“Kentucky, we have reports of a 3.2 (revised to 3.1) magnitude earthquake in Garrard County. This range does not typically produce sizable damage – just shaking – and thankfully, that is all that’s been reported so far,” Beshear said. “Emergency Management is monitoring the situation and surveying for damage. We will provide more information as available. Please be safe and aware.”
