An Independence Day message from Sen. Brandon Storm
Independence Day is one of our nation’s most cherished traditions. It is a time to gather with family and friends, enjoy the freedoms we often take for granted and reflect on the principles that have guided America since its founding nearly 250 years ago.
This Fourth of July carries added significance this year as our nation prepares to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. For nearly two and a half centuries, the United States has stood as a powerful example of freedom, opportunity and self-government. The vision set forth by our Founding Fathers in 1776 created a nation unlike any other, one built on the belief that individuals should be free to pursue their dreams and determine their own future.
The strength of our country has always come from its people. We see that every day in the hardworking men and women who serve their communities, operate small businesses, raise families, volunteer their time and answer the call to serve in uniform. Their dedication helps keep our communities strong and our nation moving forward.
Here in Kentucky, we understand the importance of personal responsibility, strong values and looking out for our neighbors. Those qualities have helped shape our communities and remain an important part of what makes America exceptional.
The spirit of service and sacrifice that built our nation is reflected throughout our history. Revolutionary War patriot Nathan Hale captured that devotion when he declared in 1776, “I only regret that I have but one life to give for my county.” His willingness to sacrifice everything for the cause of liberty reminds us that the freedoms we enjoy today were secured through the courage and commitment of those who came before us.
America’s 250th anniversary represents a significant moment in our nation’s history. As one of the first generations to celebrate this milestone, we have a unique opportunity to reflect on nearly two and a half centuries of progress, perseverance, and achievement.
As we celebrate this Independence Day and our nation’s 250th birthday, let us honor those who secured our freedoms, appreciate the blessings we enjoy today and continue working to build an even stronger future for the next generation.
