A man has been arrested after a woman fled to a local gas station and called 911 stating that he broke into her home and attempted to kill her.

Dustin N. Vest, 37, of Wilson Ridge Road in Liberty, was arrested at about 2 a.m. on Dec. 7 by Stanford Police Officer Chase Marcum.

According to the arrest citation, SPD officers responded to the local FiveStar gas station where a female had called and stated her boyfriend broke into her home and tried to kill her.

When police arrived they found the female barefoot and crying.

“(The) female stated she drove to FiveStar to call 911 in reference to her ex-boyfriend breaking into her house and trying to kill her by strangling her,” the citation states.

While interviewing the female, a “BOLO” (be on the look out) was broadcasted to surrounding areas to help locate the man, who had left the scene when the victim did.

Vest was located by Officer Phipps on his way back to the residence.

“The reason we know he was headed back is Officer Phipps went to the residence to document the altercation and forced door,” the citation states.

The female victim was transported to the local hospital for treatment of injuries.

Vest agreed to talk to police and during his interview he allegedly admitted to forcing the door and scaring the victim.

“But he stated he never touched her,” the citation states. “He did state he took her phone as it was thrown as he entered her room due to her always guarding it and that bothered him.”

Vest was arrested and charged with burglary, strangulation, failure to notify the Department of Transportation of a changed address and theft by unlawful taking.

He was lodged in the Casey County Detention Center. His bond has been set at $10,000.
