A Stanford Police Officer has resigned following an administrative investigation into the handling of misplaced personal property, according to SPD Chief Zach Middleton.

Officer Chase Marcum recently resigned from his position with the City of Stanford, Middleton confirmed.

“The department conducted an administrative investigation involving reported concerns in reference to the handling of misplaced personal property that was left at a store,” Middleton said this week. “The property was recovered by the officer and returned to its owner who reported some of the property was missing.”

Middleton said it was determined through the investigation that there were sustained departmental policy violations in regards to the incident.

“The investigation could not and did not substantiate the employee (Marcum) intentionally misappropriated the missing property, but procedural failures in policy were found,” Middleton said.

It was determined that an administrative proceeding to review the policy violations and determine disciplinary action was required.

“Officer Marcum resigned from his position before the proceeding and before any disciplinary action was decided or taken,” Middleton said.

No further proceedings or actions regarding Marcum were required or conducted.
