With federal food assistance programs in limbo during the government shutdown, local non-profits are working to gather donations to help feed families during this time.
The South Lincoln Alliance is one of those groups.
“We know many in the area might face food shortage in the upcoming weeks and we wanted to do something about it so this Halloween, help us fill more than just treat bags,” the group said on Facebook.
The group is calling for food donations, canned or boxed food items, to be brought to the Great Pumpkin Pantry donation station that will be setup Friday, Oct. 31 at the Trunk or Treat event.
The donations will help stock the free pantry for local families. While donations are appreciated, they’re not required to enjoy the Trunk or Treat fun.
Donations will be accepted during the Trunk or Treat event between 5 and 9 p.m. at the Waynesburg Community Center (16035 Ky. Hwy. 1247).
Most needed items include: chicken or tuna, pasta & rice, healthy cereal, fruit in juice and tomato sauce.
Monetary donations will also be accepted and used to purchase food.
