Summary

Fourteen seniors were honored tonight on Senior Night in their last regular season home game.

The first half was methodical by both teams having long, sustained drives. Lincoln County had two possessions in the first half, with the second one taking almost six and a half minutes off the clock. Garrard had a first-half scoring drive that went for more than 8 minutes of game time.

At the half, Lincoln County led 13-7 and it seemed like the game was going to be a low-scoring, ball-control contest.  However, the second half proved that assumption to be wrong as the two teams scored often in what almost turned into a shootout. Lincoln County held on for the 10-point win.

Our InterCounty Energy Lineman of the Game is Justin Mounce. After the game, he said, “Everybody did their part tonight. We are not going to slow down at all. I have never won a playoff game in my four years here and I want to do that.

Our Guardian Exterminating and B-Green Lawn Care Player of the Game is Damon Spigle who rushed for 105 yards tonight. In the postgame interview, Damon said, “I have to give all the credit to my line.”

The Lincoln County Daily News dot Com big play of the game is Bob Floyd’s 89-yard kickoff return touchdown. He tied the career kickoff return touchdown record with his third one tonight (he joins Jason Smith and Deon Shannon with the record).

After the game, Coach Levi Rogers said, “It was a good, hard-fought win for us tonight. Garrard is a good team.” About the playoffs, he said, “We are going back to work and try to make a run at this thing. We just need to get back to good, clean football.”

Lincoln County finished the regular season 8-2, the best record since the 2007 season. They will host Perry County Central next Friday night in the first round of the 4A playoffs.

Garrard County is now 5-4 on the season and will host Louisville DeSales next week in the 3A playoffs.

Series-by-Series Recap

It was 47 degrees with clear skies at kickoff.

Lincoln County won the coin toss and deferred the choice to the second half. Garrard County started at their own 28-yard line after a pooch kick by Lincoln. After three good runs, Clay Pendygraft recovered a Garrard County fumble and Lincoln took over at their own 34-yard line. The Patriots had good runs by Damon Spigle and two passes from Tucker Foster to Brycen Mullins, for 21 and 11 yards. The Patriots were marching toward the goal line when a fumble was recovered by Garrard County at the five-yard line. An unsportsmanlike penalty on Lincoln County moved the ball out to the 20-yard line.

From their own twenty-one after a one-yard run, Garrard picked up a first down at the 37-yard line on a 16-yard pass from Justin Parsons to Gavin Baker. Then, Parsons had a five-yard run and then Lincoln had a 2-yard tackle for loss. Facing third-down-and-seven, the Golden Lions called their first timeout of the game. Afterwards, they picked up a first down on an 11-yard run by RJ Blair. The Golden Lions ended up scoring on 1-yard 4th down run by Justin Parsons with 11:17 left in the first quarter. RJ Blair added the PAT kick and Garrard County led 7-0

On the ensuing kickoff, Bob Floyd fielded the kick off a high bounce and split the defenders right up the middle for an 89-yard kickoff return touchdown. Brody Baker tied the score at 7-7 with the PAT kick. The kick was Bob Floyd’s third of his career, tying the school record held by Jason Smith (2001-2002) and Jason Smith (2011),

Garrard County started from their own 20-yard line and was facing a fourth-down at the Lincoln County 49-yard line when a roughing the passer call gave them a first down at the Lincoln County 34-yard line. Lincoln County stiffened up and forced a Garrard County punt at the Lincoln 41-yard line. The punt bounced out of bounds at the 7-yard line and Lincoln County started there with 6:32 left in the half. At this point, Lincoln County had 7 offensive plays.

On first down, Spigle ran for five yards to the 13-yard line. On second down, Bob Floyd took a pop pass to the 18-yard line for a first down. At that point, Levi Rogers called Lincoln County’s first time out of the game.

After the time out, Foster threw to Clay Pendygraft for 12 yards to the 30-yard line. After a penalty, Tucker Foster ran for 11 yards to the 39-yard line. On the next play, a deep pass was incomplete and then Kash Smith ran for 5 yards to the 44-yard line. Then Foster ran 7 yards to the Garrard 49-yard line, followed by another run to the 43-yard line. Then, Damon Spigle ran for one yard. After that, Foster connected with Bob Floyd for a 9-yard pass for a first down to the 33-yard line. Then, Spigle ran for one yard to the 32-yard line followed by a two-yard run to the 30-yard line.

On fourth down, Foster threw for 11 yards to Clay Pendygraft for the first down with 23 seconds left in the half. With no time outs remaining, Lincoln spiked the ball to stop the clock. Then Foster hit Johnny Adkins for 15 yards to the 4-yard line and then spiked the ball again. On the next play, Tucker Foster found Clay Pendygraft in the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown pass with 8.6 seconds left in the half. After the play, there was a 15-yard penalty on Lincoln County, which backed up the PAT kick to be a 35-yard attempt. Brody Baker kicked it long enough, but it was just wide right. Lincoln County led 13-7.

After the kickoff, Garrard County killed the clock by taking a knee.

To start the second half, Brennin Hazlett returned the kick to the Lincoln 46-yard line. A pass to from Foster to Bob Floyd got the ball to the Garrard County 22-yard line. Then Spigle ran for 7 yards, Foster for 7, and then Kash Smith scored on an 8-yard run with 10:06 to play in the 3rd quarter. Brody Baker added the kick and Lincoln County led 20-7.

Garrard took the ensuing kickoff at their own 28-yard line. Aided by an unsportsmanlike penalty, the Golden Lions got deep in Lincoln County territory. They were facing 4th and goal from the 12-yard line when RJ Blair hit a 30-yard field goal with 3:37 to play in the 3rd quarter cutting the Lincoln County lead to 20-10.

Brennin Hazlett returned the ensuing kickoff to the Garrard County 43-yard line. On the next play, Damon Spigle raced 43 yards to the end zone with 3:21 left in the third quarter. Brody Baker kicked the PAT and Lincoln’s lead grew to 27-10.

Lincoln County tried an onside kick which Garrard recovered at their own 48-yard line. After a three yard gain and then an incomplete pass, Tucker Foster picked off a Justin Parsons pass at the Lincoln County 32-yard line.

From there, Damon Spigle ran for 7 yards to the 39-yard line. Tucker Foster had a 31-yard run down to the 30-yard line and a short run to the twenty-five-yard line where it appeared that Tucker Foster scored on the next play, but the run was nullified by a penalty. The ball was marked back the 23-yard line. Kash Smith ran 10 yards to the 13-yard-line. A Bob Floyd pop pass took it to the 8-yard line and two penalties on Garrard County marked the ball down to the one-yard-line. Two plays later, Tucker Foster scored on a one-yard run with 10:11 to play in the game. Brody Baker’s kick was good an Lincoln County increased its lead to 34-10.

On the kickoff, RJ Blair returned it to the Lincoln County 20-yard line where Johnny Adkins made a touchdown-saving tackle for the Patriots. Two plays later RJ Blair ran in a touchdown from 14 yards out with 9:14 to play in the game. Blair also kicked the PAT and the Lincoln County lead was cut to 34-17.

Bob Floyd nearly broke the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown returning it 36 yards to the Lincoln County 46-yard line. On the first play, Damon Spigle had a big run but it was brough back by a holding penalty, putting Lincoln County back to the 37-yard line. Damon Spigle ran four yards to the 41-yard line.

On the next play, a bad snap flew over Tucker Foster’s head and Garrard Country recovered it at the Lincoln County 7-yard line. From there, Justin Parsons scored on a 7-yard run with 6:58 to play in the game. RJ Blair added the kick and the Lincoln County game was pared back to 34-24.

Garrard County attempted an on-side that was safely recovered by Drake Willoughby at the Garrard 49-yard line. On first down, Damon Spigle ran for 13 yards to the 36-yard line for another first down. Tucker Foster called his own number on the next play and picked up 15 yards to the 21-yard line. Then a botched play lost three yards to the 24-yard line. Tucker Foster carried to the 16-yard line and then to the 13-yard line. On fourth down, Garrard jumped offside and the penalty gave Lincoln County a first down at the 8-yard line. Foster ran to the 3-yard line after that. On the next play, Tucker Foster walked in for a 3-yard touchdown with 2:26 left in the game. Brody Baker added the PAT kick and the Lincoln lead was 41-24.

Garrard County got it at their own 45-yrd line after the kickoff. Two plays later Justin Parsons hit Gavin Baker on a 55-yard catch and run with 1:54 to play in the game. RJ Blair added the kick and the Lincoln lead was cut back to 41-31.

There were two penalties on Lincoln County after the Garrard County touchdown, which were assessed on the kickoff, allowing Garrard to kick from the Lincoln County 45-yard line. Garrard executed a bouncing onside kick and recovered it at the Lincoln County 35-yard line.

On first down, Garrard had an incomplete pass. On second down, the pass was thrown away for another incomplete pass. On third down, RJ Blair got 6 yards to the 29-yard line. On fourth down, the pass was incomplete.

Lincoln County got the ball back at their own 29-yard line with 1:05 left in the game.  Garrard did not take their remaining timeouts and Lincoln County ran a couple of plays and the time expired.
