A two-vehicle collision in Lincoln County claimed the life of a 16-year-old, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
Chief Deputy Michael Mullins said deputies were dispatched to U.S. 127 at approximately 9:52 p.m. on May 22, along with the Lincoln County Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS, in reference to a two-vehicle injury collision with entrapment.
The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2018 silver Mazda 3, operated by Brynn Bentley, 16, was exiting the Dove Cove subdivision onto U.S. 127.
“As Bentley was conducted a left-hand turn entering the intersection, her vehicle collided with a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Gaberiel Cook, 19, that was traveling southbound on U.S. 127,” the press release states.
Volunteers from the Lincoln County Fire Department were able to extricate Bentley from her vehicle.
“At that time, members of Lincoln County EMS began life-saving measures,” the press release states. “Despite effort, Bentley succumbed to her injuries at the scene.”
Bentley was pronounced deceased at the scene as a result of the collision by Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum.
Cook was transported to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries.
The collision remains under investigation by Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy Steele. He was assisted on scene by Deputy Nicholson, Deputy D. Phillips, the Lincoln County Fire Department, Lincoln County EMS and the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office.
