Summary

It was a first-ever Thursday night home playoff game at Death Valley in foggy and damp 40-degree weather where the Patriots started strong, stalled some, and then finally pulled away for the running-clock win.

Kash Smith, pictured with Dustin Onley in a postgame interview, in his second game back from injury, ran for four touchdowns. Both Smith and Damon Spigle rushed for over 100 yards in the game. Tucker Foster had two interceptions, and Bob Floyd had two touchdowns off deflected passes, one on offense and one on defense. Altogether, the Lincoln County defense had four interceptions.

Lincoln County travels to Corbin next week for a second-round playoff game. The Patriots’ win-loss record is now 9-2.

Our InterCounty Energy Lineman of the Game is Michael Wilshire. After the game, he said this about advancing in the playoffs, “We plan on working hard and staying focused.”

Our Guardian Exterminating and B-Green Lawn Care Player of the Game is Kash Smith. After the game, he commented, “I was just happy to be able to be playing with my team again and you never know when it’s going to be your last one so I just played as hard as I could.”

Kash Smith, who was playing at close to full speed for the first time tonight after a season long nagging injury, rushed for 4 touchdowns, being interviewed by Dustin Oney of WPBK-FM.

Coach Levi Rogers was proud of his team, “Good overall win for us. We came out hot and then had a couple of drives that stalled out. I really want us to be more disciplined and not commit those penalties after the whistle that we saw tonight.” About playing Corbin next week, “We are going back to work and we have everybody healthy. We are going to work hard to go down there and get the win.”

The Lincoln County Daily News dot Com Big Play of the Game(s) were Bob Floyd’s two deflection scores. He said, “I give credit for that to assistant coach Spigle, he is always preaching the tip drill and we do it every day.”

Lincoln County took the opening kickoff and quickly moved the ball down the field to score their with less than two minutes of game time when Tucker Foster ran in from 1-yard out with 10:03 to play in the first quarter. Brodey Baker kicked the PAT and Lincoln County led 7-0.

After a PCC punt, Lincon County drove deep in PCC territory but gave it up on downs at the PCC 29-yard line. On PCC’s drive, Tucker Foster intercepted a pass giving Lincoln County the ball at the 38-yard line. Lincoln County got as deed as the 10-yard line, but penalties pushed them back to the 22-yard line. On 4th down, Brody Baker attempted a 39-yard field that was long enough but just wide.

PCC’s second series started from their own 20-yard line. They got a first down on an outside pitch to the 38-yard line. They got as far as their own 44-yard line where they stalled out and punted to Lincoln County.

The Patriots took over after the punt at their own 30-yard line. Damon Spigle got them a first down running out to the 43-yard line, then another first down on a 15-yard run to the PCC 42-yard line. Kash Smith followed that with a four-yard run to the 38-yard line. The next run was nullified by a personal foul penalty on Lincoln County to their own 49-yard line. On the next play, Kash Smith got nine yards on a screen pass.

There, Lincoln County faced 4th and 10 but Tucker Foster found Brennin Hazlett over the middle for 20 yards to the 22-yard line. Then, Kash Smith ran 9 yards to the 13-yard line, followed by 8 yards to the 5-yard line and three yards to the 2-yard line. Smith carried again and was marked just short of the goal line but crashed over on the next play from 1-yard out with 6:48 to play in the 2nd quarter. Brody Baker added his second PAT and Lincoln County led 14-0.

After the kickoff, PCC started at their own 25-yard line. They got a first down at their own 42-yard line and then another one at the Lincoln County 42-yard line. A face-masking penalty moved it to the Lincoln County 19-yard line. A quarterback scramble moved it down to the 11-yard line.

They got a first down at the 7-yard line and then three plays later got it to the two-yard line with a 4th-down-and-goal. After a time out, the QB Parker Maggard kept it up the middle and gutted out a 2-yard touchdown run with 2:17 to play in the first half. The PAT kick was blocked by Bob Floyd, and the Lincoln County lead was 14-6.

Brennin Hazlett returned the ensuing kickoff to Lincoln’s 43-yard line. On first down, Foster’s deep pass to Johny Adkins fell incomplete. On second down, Foster found Clay Pendygraft for a 15-yard pass to the 42-yard line.

Then, he connected with Bob Floyd to the 36-yard line, followed by a Damon Spigle run to the 33-yard line. On the next play, Bob Floyd caught a tipped pass from Tucker Foster for a 33-yard touchdown reception with 1:22 left in the first half. Brody Baker made his third PAT kick, and the Patriots led 21-6.

PCC started their next drive from their own 26-yard line. Then Bob Floyd intercepted a pass at the Lincoln County 49-yard line. Passes to Clay Pendygraft, Bob Floyd, and Brycen Mullins got it to the PCC 27-yard line with 7.6 seconds left in the first half. After a time out, Foster passed to Johnny Adkins to the 23-yard line with 3.2 seconds left. With time expiring, Brody Baker had his 40-yard field goal attempt partially blocked and the half ended with Lincoln County leading 21-6.

PCC returned the second half kick to their own 28-yard line. With the help of another 15-yard penalty, they got it down to the Lincoln County 30-yard line where they faced a fourth down. Parker Maggard scrambled from his quarterback position and got a first down at the Lincoln County 15-yard line.

On a completed pass inside the ten-yard line, Tucker Foster stripped the ball from the receiver and returned it to the 28-yard line, but the play was nullified by a defensive holding penalty on Lincoln County. The penalty moved it to the 8-yard line and Maggard ran for a first down to the 4-yard line. Then, he ran it in from 4 yards out with 8:14 to play in the 3rd quarter. The two-point PAT pass from Maggard to Aaron Johnson was good to cut the Lincoln County lead to 21-14.

Brennin Hazlett had a 15-yard kickoff return to the 48-yard line. On first down, Damon Spigle ran for a first down to the PCC 42-yard line, then ran again to the 37-yard line. Kash Smith replaced Spigle and he ran 5 yards for a first down at the 32-yard line. Then, Tucker Foster ran 13 yards to the 19-yard line. A bad snap moved it back to the 30-yard line where Kash Smith broke loose for a 30-yard touchdown run with 5:45 left in the third quarter. Brody Baker kicked his fourth PAT to give Lincoln County a 28-14 lead.

PCC started at their own 24-yard line. A 14-yard pass got them to the 38-yard line. Parker Maggard ran it to the Lincoln County 35-yard line. After offsetting penalties, on third down and 10 at the Lincoln County 35-yard line, a bad snap caused Parker Maggard to scramble backward and heave a pass down field where it was intercepted by Tucker Julian of Lincoln County at the 31-yard line.

On the next play, Damon Spigle ran for 18 yards to the 49-yard line. A penalty on PCC moved the ball to the PCC 37-yard line. On the next play, Kash Smith made a bruising 37-yard touchdown run with 3:21 to play in the third quarter. Baker split the uprights for his fifth PAT kick giving Lincoln County a 35-14 lead.

On the ensuing kickoff, PCC returned a deep kick to their own 26-yard line. On first down, a 22-yard pass from Maggard to Keagan Cecil went to the 48-yard line where they stalled facing at fourth-down-and-ten when Lincoln County held to take over the ball on the loss of downs.

On first down, Damon Spigle ran 27 yards to the 21-yard line. On the next play, Kash Smith raced up the middle 21 yards for the touchdown with 1:37 to play in the 3rd quarter. Brody Baker added his sixth PAT kick and Lincoln’s lead grew to 42-14.

After the kick, PCC started at the 17-yard line. On second and ten from there, Justin Mounce sacked Parker Maggard at the five-yard line. On fourth and 21 to go from there, PCC punted from the back of the end one, where Bob Floyd returned it from the 35-yard line to the 20-yard line.

A holding penalty nullified the return and Lincoln County started the drive from the 33-yard line. On first down, Reed Curlis carried five yards to the 28-yard line, then a loss moved it back to the 30-yard line. On third down, Foster’s pass to Johnny Adkins fell incomplete. On fourth-down-and-seven the Patriots had another incomplete pass and gave it up on downs at the PCC 30-yard line.

PCC took over there. Three plays later they threw a pass to the Lincoln County 40-yard line. They got a first down at the 22-yard line. A pass to Aaron Johnson got it to the 15-yard line. From there, Maggard threw to the end zone, but the pass was picked off by Tucker Foster at the one-yard line.

After penalties were marked off following the interception, Lincoln County started at their own 8-yard line. On the first play, Reed Curlis ran 19 yards to the 27-yard line. Curlis got 2 yards after that to the 29-yard line, then one yard to the 30-yard line, and three yards to the 33-yard line where they faced a fourth down. Tucker Foster punted for the first time of the night, and first time in three games, with the ball rolling to the PCC 30-yard line with 3:20 left in the game.

On the next play, Bob Floyd grabbed a deflected pass and returned the interception 42-yards for a touchdown with 3:10 remaining in the game. Brody Baker’s 7th PAT kick was good and Lincoln County led 49-14, which initiated the 35-point running clock mercy rule.

Lincoln County substitutes played from there and the running clock ended the game quickly with PCC running a few plays before time expired.
