KYTC announces RCUT project in LC to begin next week

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 8 has announced a highway safety improvement project will begin next week in Lincoln County.

The project will be at the intersection of U.S. 150 and Ky. Hwy. 300 where crews will construct a Reduced Conflict U-Turn (RCUT) to improve safety, traffic flow and efficiency at the location, the cabinet said in a press release.

KYTC District 8 said the design will help reduce crashes, improve visibility and shorten wait times, allowing drivers to focus on one direction of traffic at a time.

“An RCUT is designed to make intersections safer by simplifying how drivers move through them,” the press release states. “Instead of turning left directly or crossing straight from a side road: drivers will turn right first, then use a designated U-turn lane and finally, complete their movement once traffic is clear.”

The project has been awarded to The Allen Company, Inc. at a cost of $1,086,581. It is expected to be completed by July 31, 2026.

“Motorists can expect lane closures throughout the duration of the project,” the release states. “Drivers are encouraged to slow down, stay alert and watch for crews in the work zone.”
