The Stanford Police Department says there is no immediate danger to students or staff, but Highland Elementary has been placed on a soft lockdown this morning as they monitor the situation.
The soft lockdown came after students on the playground reported hearing gunshots in the area.
The incident was immediately investigated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office along with school staff, as well as the School Resource Officer who was already on scene at the time of the report.
SPD said at this time (11:30 a.m.) no threats have been identified and there is no danger to students or staff.
“The school remained in in a soft lockdown out of an abundance of caution while the situation was assessed,” SPD wrote on Facebook. “
Classroom activities continued as normal while access to the building was temporarily restricted.
“Student and staff safety remains our top priority,” the department said. “We appreciate the quick response of law enforcement, school personnel, and the patience and cooperation of parents during the incident.”
Highland Elementary asked parents to remain patient and avoid calling the school unless it is urgent.
