A three-vehicle collision involving a garbage truck resulted in one person being airlifted with injuries, according to local officials.

The collision was reported at about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Stanford Fire Chief Scott Maples.

“A Republic Services truck was headed south to the landfill (and) struck an SUV coming off Lancaster Street at the intersection,” Maples said. “The SUV was pushed into another vehicle – three vehicles were involved.”

The driver of the SUV, who could not be identified at this time, was trapped in the SUV and had to be extricated by local emergency services.

Maples confirmed the male subject is a Lincoln County Middle School teacher. He was airlifted from the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The Stanford Police Department is overseeing the investigation. Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement also assisted on scene, as well as the Stanford Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS.

This is a developing story. Additional details will be added as they are made available.
