A Lincoln County native recently spent time cleaning up one of Cedar Creek Lake’s Wildlife Management Areas (WMA) as part of a statewide initiative.

The Kentucky Public Land Cleanup event was hosted by the Kentucky Conservation and Sportsmen’s Alliance on March 14-15. The group invited people across Kentucky to clean up any public land in the state.

Lincoln County native Josh Wilson chose to clean up a Cedar Creek Lake WMA, a place he says he noticed needed some help.

“Cedar Creek WMA was my first thought because I had seen the trash there while fishing and I use the lake often, so picking up the trash and cleaning up a little bit just made sense to me,” Wilson said.

Wilson said he ended up with 7 bags of garbage, two grocery bags and a variety of items that didn’t fit in bags.

“I went out to clean up in the first place because the Kentucky Conversation and Sportsman’s Alliance (KCSA) was having a statewide public land clean up event,” he said. “They have tons of really good events like this throughout the year.”

Wilson said as an outdoorsman, being able to make a difference is important to him.

“We should be advocating for taking care of our public lands, and backing that up by putting boots on the ground and doing the work when no one is watching,” he said. “We have a responsibility to help keep our public lands clean and usable for generations to come.”
