A boil water advisory is in effect for all City of Crab Orchard water customers.

The City of Crab Orchard said there was a water line break Saturday night on Hwy. 39 and water operators have been working to make repairs as quickly as possible.

The break in the line required the water company to shut off the Stanford Waterworks connection.

“As a result, customers may experience low water pressure, and there is a possibility of a temporary loss of water service within town,” the city said.

The repairs were completed as of Sunday and the city had to flush hydrants to remove all air and wait for the lines to fill back up with pressure and water.

“Now having said that, our entire water system will be on a boil water advisory to include all of town,” the city said.

The city was working into the evening to restore water to those still without water on Sunday.

During a boil water advisory you should boil tap water for 3 minutes (rolling boil) for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice/baby formula and pet water; use bottled water if possible, and avoid swallowing water during baths/showers (sponge baths for kids) until the advisory is lifted by your water utility. Use disposable plates or sanitize dishes, and don’t use home filters.
