LCHS GEAR UP celebrates National GEAR UP week starting Sept. 22

Press Release

The Lincoln County High School GEAR UP Program announced their participation in National GEAR UP Week 2025 (September 22nd-26th). This week commemorates the continuing success of Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP), a college access program providing students and families the support and resources they need for college success.

Since its inception in 1999, GEAR UP has improved educational outcomes for millions of low-income, minority and disadvantaged students across the United States, including 700 current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students of Lincoln County High School.

Lincoln County High School GEAR UP Program will celebrate National GEAR UP Week 2025 by providing interactive experiences including a scavenger hunt, trivia competition, a dream board for students to share their future plans, workshops, and door prizes provided by the community for students who participate.

Students like Angelina have found the right fit by participating in the GEAR UP Program.

“During the summer, GEAR UP organized a trip to Asbury University. Seeing their Equine Program really helped reassure me about what I want to do in the future. Not only that, but we’ve had conversations about the future, and it’s really helped me figure out which steps I need to take to reach my goals.”

Additionally, Price aspires to go to tech school, he shared, “My plans for after I graduate would be to go to SCC to get my CDL license to drive a truck. You guys have really helped motivate me in many ways to help me with all my missing work and assignments, keep it in check, and keep my grades up. I really appreciate what y’all do.”

When asked about the impact GEAR UP has had on her son, Donya said, “GEAR UP has given my son more resources that he can use, and not only things that have benefited him in school, but also outside of school… Especially for the ACT, and we got to see some of those successes this last time he took the test!”

National GEAR UP Week is a time to celebrate these accomplishments in our community.
