If you’re looking for something fun and family-friendly to do this weekend, look no further than Waynesburg, Kentucky.
The second annual Pioneer Days festival will kick off Friday, Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. with pageants at the Waynesburg Community Center.
Saturday, Sept. 6 has a full schedule of fun events for all ages.
Denise Pilcher of the South Lincoln Alliance said it’s an event that has something for everyone.
Saturday’s events begin with a baby show at 10 a.m., followed by the annual Pioneer Days parade at noon.
The rest of the day is filled with games, live music and food trucks. From Waynesburg’s Got Talent, a back seat driver contest and the Farm Hand Olympics – Pilcher said it’s sure to be an entertaining day.
There will also be kids’ games throughout the day including crafts, horse races, bubbles and more.
At 6 p.m., USWF wrestlers will take the stage. The wrestling event is free for everyone.
Pioneer Days will wrap up with music from Elvis Cocktail and a fun community dance beginning at 8 p.m.Â
It’s an event that Pilcher and the rest of the South Lincoln Alliance board and volunteers work hard on every year. When the event finally rolls around, Pilcher said she loves to just sit back and watch.
“My favorite part is just the feeling of community,” she said. “…everybody just getting out and talking and you see people enjoying themselves.”
Pilcher said It takes a lot of hard work to put together an event like this, and it’s nice to sit back and watch all of that hard work making the community happy.
“We’re just super excited and every year we’re hoping to make it a little bigger and have more participation until we can bring it back like it used to be,” she said.
