A bomb threat at Stanford Walmart caused local police to evacuate employees and customers from the store Thursday evening.
According to Police Chief Zach Middleton, the bomb threat was unsubstantiated.
Walmart was evacuated as a result of the threat, including approximately 40 employees and 40 customers, who were moved to a safe location.
The Stanford Police Department was assisted on scene by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, Lincoln County EMS and the Stanford Fire Department.
At about 8:40 p.m., local law enforcement had completed an initial sweep and cleared the store but were still waiting for explosive detection canines from the University of Kentucky Police Department to do a final clearance.
At about 9:20 p.m. all agencies cleared the Stanford Walmart. The store has reopened and is back to normal operations.
