Lincoln County 27 West Jessamine 14

Final from Nicholasville

Lincoln County 27 West Jessamine 14

Our InterCounty Energy Lineman of the Game is Sean Brown.

The Guardian Exterminating and B-Green Lawn Care Player of the Game is Johnny Adkins.

The start time for this game was moved up to 6:00 PM from the scheduled 7:30 start in order to try to get the game in before stormy weather arrived. Even though it was raining in Stanford most of the game, the rain held off in Nicholasville and the game ended in dry conditions at 8:24 PM.

West Jessamine won the coin toss but deferred their choice to the second half.

Lincoln County received the opening kickoff without a return at their own 25-yard line. Damon Spigle carried for three yards to start the possession, then Tucker Foster threw eight yards to Johnny Adkins for a first down at the West Jessamine 26-yard line.

The Patriots then had two runs for no gain before Foster went to the air again, hitting Adkins again on a 34-yard pass for another first down at the West Jessamine 30-yard line. He followed that pass with an 11-yard pass to Drake Willoughby at the West Jessamine 19-yard line.

The Patriots bogged down and faced a 4th down and twelve yards to go at the West Jessamine 21-yard line when Foster dropped back to pass connected on a 20-yard completion to Bob Floyd. On the next play, Foster crashed across the goal line on a one-yard run with 7:16 left in the first quarter. Brody Baker added the PAT kick and Lincoln County led 7-0. The drive covered 75 yards in ten plays, taking four minutes and forty-four seconds off the clock.

Foster finished the game with over 200 yards passing. Spigle did not play again after the first series and Reed Curlis played the rest of the way as the main ball carrier.

West Jessamine took the ensuing kickoff at their own 40-yard line and managed only 7 yards in three plays and punted to Lincoln County. The Patriots had no return and the drive started at the ten-yard line. Behind the running of Reed Curlis, the Patriots some breathing room and a first down out to the twenty-yard line.

With a combination of passing and running by Tucker Foster, the Patriots got another first down at their own 35-yard line but stalled there. Tucker Foster punted on 4th down and ten yards to go, giving the ball back to West Jessamine at their own 31-yard line.

West Jessamine’s second possession of the game saw them get their first first-down of the game at their own 43-yard line. From there, they moved down to the Lincoln County 46-yard line with another first down and then went back to the air. That is when Johnny “Johnny Football” Adkins stepped in front of a long pass, intercepting it at the 25-yard line and returning it to the 45-yard line.

The Lincoln County offense was back on the field and Tucker Foster went to work at quarterback. Reed Curlis ran for twelve yards and then Foster threw to Bob Floyd for 24 yards to just inside the 10-yard line. Then Drake Willoughby ran five yards to the 5-yard line.  On the next play, Tucker Foster rolled to his right and threw to the back of the endzone where he found Bob Floyd for the five-yard touchdown pass. Baker’s kick was no good and Lincoln County led 13-0 with 7:08 left in the second quarter.

West Jessamine started their third possession from their own twenty-six-yard line after the kickoff. They moved it down to the Lincoln County 44-yard line where they faced a fourth-down and a yard to go, on the quarterback keeper by West Jessamine, Reed Curlis made a spectacular tackle from his linebacker position to stuff the attempt and cause the turnover on downs.

Lincoln was back on offense at their own 44-yard line.  There, Tucker Foster completed a 27-yard pass to Brycen Mullins for a first down at the West Jessamine 29-yard line. A chop block penalty moved Lincoln County back to the 39-yard line. There, Tucker Foster connected with Johnny Adkins for a fifteen-yard gain to the West Jessamine twenty-four-yard line, setting up a fourth down and four yards to go with less than thirty seconds left in the half.

Tucker Foster went to the air again, hitting Johnny Adkins in stride across the middle who made a great run after the catch to score on a 24-yard catch and run with thirteen seconds left in the half. Brody Baker made his second kick of the night, and Lincoln County led 20-0. Jessamine County ran two plays to end the half.

West Jessamine received the ball to start the second half and could not move it. After a three-and-out, they drilled a 61-yard punt, pinning Lincoln County at their own 10-yard line. After a short run by Reed Curlis, Foster connected on a nine-yard pass to Bob Floyd for a first down at the twenty-yard line. Another short run and then a pass to Johnny Adkins moved the ball up to the 32-yard line. On a third-down and eight yards to go, Tucker Foster was under heavy pressure when he hurled the ball down field and was intercepted by Zachery Pinkston of West Jessamine.

The Colts took over at their own 48-yard line, picked up a first down at the Lincoln County 38-yard line, and then fumbled the football on a 4th down play, which was recovered by Tucker Julian at Lincoln County’s 33-yard line. A couple of runs moved the ball to the 40-yard line but a penalty pushed it back to the 35-yard line.

There, Tucker Foster found Bob Floyd on a 18-yard pass play to the West Jessamine 47-yard line. That same duo followed that with a 32-yard pass that Bob Floyd hauled in at the 14-yard line. Reed Curlis ran it to just inside the 10-yard line and then Tucker Foster made a determined run up the middle to score from 9 yards out with 1:44 left in the 3rd quarter. Brody Baker added the PAT and the Lincoln lead grew to 27-0.

Brody Baker kicked the ensuing kickoff into the endzone and West Jessamine started from their own 20-yard line. The Colts moved the ball down the field, aided by a 15-yard unsportsmanlike penalty for a hard hit. They scored on a 32-yard pass from Cooper Swaim to Jaedyn Milfort with 10 seconds left in the third quarter. Easton Erhardt kicked the PAT and the Lincoln County lead was cut to 27-7.

The Patriots started from their own 34-yard line after the kickoff and started marching to ball down the field. A fifteen-yard run by Tucker Foster was followed by a 12-yard run by Reed Curlis. Then, Tucker Foster ripped off a 14-yard run to the West Jessamine twenty-three-yard line. On the next play, Foster overthrew Johnny Adkins on the slant pass, and the ball was intercepted at the 10-yard line.

West Jessamine took over from deep in their own territory and got big chunks of yardage on the passing of Cooper Swaim. They covered the final 37-yards on a deep pass to Nash Bird with 5:35 remaining in the game. Easton Erhardt kicked his second PAT and Lincoln County led 27-14.

After two onside kick attempts, due to a penalty on the first one, Lincoln County started from their own 44-yard line. On third down, a screen pass to Reed Curlis went for 14 yards giving Lincoln County a first down at the West Jessamine 41-yard line. On 4th down, Brody Heath picked off a Tucker Foster pass and West Jessamine took over at their own 33-yard line.

On the second play of that series, Sean Brown hurried the quarterback who threw off his back foot and Tucker Foster intercepted the ball from his free safety position. Lincoln County got the ball back at the West Jessamine 46-yard line.

The Patriots could not get a first down and West Jessamine took over at their own 38-yard line with 53 seconds left in the game. The Colts completed a 24-yard pass down to the Lincon County 38 yard and an unsportsmanlike penalty moved it to the 23-yard line. Apparently losing track of the downs, West Jessamine’s quarterback spiked the ball to stop the clock on 4th down, giving the ball back to Lincoln County with 10 seconds left. The Patriots ran one play out of the victory formation and the game was over.

Lincoln County will be at home next week against Danville, which is 3-0 after a win at Anderson County tonight.
