A 13-year-old has died following an accident involving a golf cart in Lincoln County on Sunday.

According to Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum, Dawson Rapp, a Lincoln County Middle School student, was transported to Ephraim McDowell Fort Logan Hospital where he was pronounced deceased following the accident.

Rapp was a passenger on the golf cart, which was being operated by a female juvenile, when the driver lost control and the golf cart overturned.

The cause of death was blunt force trauma, Marcum said.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. on South Fishing Creek Road, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said the female juvenile was also injured during the accident.

LCSO Deputy Austin Price is overseeing the ongoing investigation.

Price was assisted by the Lincoln County Fire Department, Lincoln County EMS, the Lincoln County Coroner’s Office, the Stanford Police Department and Deputy Russell Preston.

The Lincoln County School District released a statement on the heartbreaking loss.

“We are deeply saddened to share that our school community has suffered a heartbreaking loss with the passing of one of our 7th grade students, Dawson Rapp, following a tragic accident over the weekend,” the release states. “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with Dawson’s family, friends and everyone affected by this loss.”

Counseling services were made available Monday morning and will continue to be available at LCMS to support students and staff during this difficult time.

“We encourage anyone who may need support to take advantage of these resources,” the release states. “In times of grief, our strength lies in coming together with empathy, care and compassion.”
