A fire caused extensive damage to a home in Stanford Tuesday morning, leaving it uninhabitable.
The Stanford Fire Department (SFD) was dispatched to 102 Sowder Street for a structure fire with possible entrapment, according to Fire Chief Scott Maples.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke coming from the rear of the structure, with neighbors saying that two residents were still in the house.
“Fire crews made a quick initial search for victims but found nothing,” Maples said.
A dog was located during the initial search and was rescued and revived, he said.
Crews then began knocking down the fire.
“A secondary search was then performed for victims with nothing found,” Maples said. “A secondary search dog was located and revived. Residents were not in the home. They were confirmed to be at another location.”
SFD was assisted on scene by the Lincoln County Fire Department and Lincoln County EMS.
Maples said the fire started in the furnace unit located in the crawlspace which then spread to the first floor and attic area.
The fire chief said the home was a 75% loss and deemed uninhabitable.
“American Red Cross and Stanford Fire Department Chaplin were notified and residents were referred for assistance,” Maples said.
The scene was cleared a little after 11 a.m.
