Stanford Fire Department receives improved ISO rating

The Stanford Fire Department’s commitment to high quality fire protection has been acknowledged as the department recently received an improved Insurance Services Office (ISO) rating.

The Stanford Fire Department has earned a new Public Protection Classification of Class 3 from the Insurance Services Office (ISO), improving from its previous Class 4 rating.

“The department’s overall score rose from 60.17 to 75.50 points,” a press release states. “The improvement reflects stronger performance in emergency communications, fire department operations, and community risk reduction, while maintaining a strong water supply rating.”

A community’s fire protection capabilities are measured through ISO ratings and are used by many insurance companies as one factor when setting property insurance premiums.

“This improvement is the result of hard work by our firefighters, support from the city, and ongoing investments in training, equipment and operations,” the department said in a press release. “A Class 3 rating is a strong result for a community our size and reflects our continued commitment to high quality fire protection.”

SFD Fire Chief Scott Maples said he is proud of the new rating and the department’s hard work.

“I’m proud of our new Class 3 ISO rating. A lot of what goes into this happens outside of emergency responses hydrant inspections and maintenance, training, our inspections program, community outreach, and regular testing of equipment,” Maples said. “It’s the day-to-day work of our firefighters, city support, and those investments that made the difference. A Class 3 is a strong rating for a community our size. I’m grateful for the team and everyone who helped us get here.”

Residents and business owners with insurance questions should contact their agent or company, he said.
