An 81-year-old man was killed in a collision with a semi-truck hauling animal carcasses Tuesday evening, according to Lincoln County Coroner Farris Marcum.

Clifford G. Walker, 81, of Stanford was pronounced deceased on scene at 6 p.m., Marcum said.

“Mr. Walker was traveling on Ky. Hwy. 698 where he approached the intersection of U.S. 27 where he pulled into the path of a large commercial semi-truck that was traveling southbound,” Marcum said. “He was struck on the driver’s side of the vehicle with heavy impact damage.”

Walker was wearing a seat belt at the time and the driver’s side airbag was deployed. No drugs or alcohol is suspected.

Marcum said Walker, who he knew personally, was originally from Ohio but had been living in Lincoln County, Kentucky for about 10 years.

“I’ve talked to him 100 times,” Marcum said. “He didn’t know a lot of people out here, he kind of stayed to himself. He actually lived out on (Ky. Hwy.) 698 and I’d say he was probably coming to town to go to the store or something. He’s an elderly fellow who can’t see very well and he can’t hear. I’d say it’s probably going to be not paying attention or just being distracted and pulled out in front of that big truck.”

Marcum said the driver of the semi-truck was not injured and the roadway was reopened at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Kentucky State Police conducted a reconstruction of the accident.

Pecco Inc. out of Nicholasville was on scene to clean up the animal carcasses which were ejected all over the roadway.
