Gilliland to serve as Stanford Mayor until council appoints interim

Following the passing of Stanford Mayor Dalton Miller, a 2022 executive order signed by Miller delegates mayoral duties until the City Council officially appoints an interim mayor.

An executive order signed by Miller in 2022 delegates the duties of Stanford Mayor to Joe Gilliland.

Gilliland will have the authority and power to perform any and all necessary executive functions, other than the ability to approve ordinances or promulgate regulations.

Gilliland, a Stanford Police Detective has long served the Stanford community. Gilliland has over 50 years of law enforcement experience, and began his career at the Stanford Police Department.

According to the order, if Gilliland is unable to perform those duties, Jamie Doolin has been appointed as an alternate.

The ability to approve ordinances or promulgate regulations has been delegated to Councilmember Joe Tackett.

The Stanford City Council has 30 days to appoint an interim mayor to serve until the November election when voters will choose a mayor for the next term.
