Stanford departments report September activity

By Abigail Roberts

Each month the Stanford City Council receives an activity report from local departments including the Stanford Police Department (SPD), the Stanford Fire Department (SFD) and Code Enforcement.

POLICE

During the month of Sept., SPD Officers reported a total of 807 contacts through 911. Officers wrote 118 citations, gave 65 warnings and made 13 arrests.

A total of 26 incidents/cases were reported and officers responded to a total of 24 accidents in September.

SPD Chief Zach Middleton told City Council members in a letter that September was a busy, but successful month. Officers provided special detail coverage for several events including the Patriot Day Parade, Fly Sam Fly 5k, Wilderness Road Marathon, 250th celebration festivals, home high school footballs games and the Bourbon Chase.

“Call volume and general workflow remain steady, as the monthly report reflects the total numbers,” Middleton said. “There were 13 arrests made this month with charges including: multiple DUI’s, falsely reporting an incident, menacing, attempted assault, attempted arson, alcohol intoxication in public place, theft, disorderly conduct, possession charges and multiple arrest warrant services.”

Middleton said the department has concluded the hiring process to fill one vacant patrol position.

“After a very lengthy process, including may in-depth evaluations, trainings and considerations, the department has selected candidate Jordan Tackett, who was offered and accepted the position,” Middleton said.

The Highland Elementary School Resource Officer position remains open and they are still attempting to fill that with a certified officer, he said.

“For now, we are covering the school the best we can with road units stepping in to provide coverage until it is filled,” Middleton said.
