For eight years now, local leaders in Crab Orchard have greeted students as they made their way into school for their first day.
The tradition continued on Monday, Sept. 8 as the group gathered in front of Crab Orchard Elementary.

“We are there to wish the kids a good morning, to have a great day and welcome back to school,” said City Clerk Nancy Baker.
Each year the city purchases a gift for each student as they start the year. This year, students received a new Crab Orchard Cubs pencil pouch.

The following people participated in this year’s welcome back: Magistrate Dan Gutenson; City Commissioner Mike Eldridge; Constable Mike Mullins; Tracy Troyer, owner of LIfted Spirit; Julie Lowery, postal employee; Willie and Amber Ashley of Ashley’s Towing; Police Chief Jimmy Gipson; Firefighters Chief Larry Owsley, Tim Saylor, Rodney and Ken Price, Jaxon Pope, Ryan Plantz; and city employees Tina Smith and City Clerk Nancy Baker.
