The Stanford Fire Department has announced it has started annual hydrant testing and maintenance.
The hydrant testing will continue city-wide over the next couple of months. The fire department asks the public to use caution when driving near crews.
The testing will be done during morning and evening hours throughout July and August.
“This essential work ensures our hydrants are ready to protect our community,” the department said in a press release. “You may notice water flowing briefly or crews working near hydrants. Please drive cautiously around our crews and equipment.”
SFD says flow testing can cause discoloration or loss of water pressure for some residents but it is not a health hazard.
“Customers are cautioned to determine if the water is clear before washing clothes as staining may occur,” the department said. “If you experience discolored water, run the cold water in all of your faucets for approximately 5 to 10 minutes.”
