Willoughby named LCHS principal

Lincoln County High School has a new principal for the 2025-26 school year.

Matt Willoughby will take on the new role, and bring with him 18 years of education experience. Throughout that time, Willoughby has developed his knowledge and leadership through various roles including as a teacher, assistant principal and head principal. He also spend five years with the Kentucky Department of Education as an Educational Recovery Leader.

“I’m extremely honored to be given this opportunity at LCHS,” Willoughby said in a press release. “I truly believe we have great potential. I’m extremely excited to see all the great things our students and staff accomplish moving forward. Go Pats!”

Willoughby holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Midway College, as well as a Master’s Degree in Leadership (Principalship) and a Rank 1 in District Leadership from the University of the Cumberlands.

Lincoln County Superintendent Bruce Smith said he is confident in Willoughby’s ability to lead.

“Matt has been both a teacher and an administrator in his career, including the last year as the assistant principal at the high school,” Smith said. “He will be able to hit the ground running and help continue moving our high school in a positive direction.”

According to the press release, Willoughby and his wife, Carrie, have three children. In his free time Willoughby enjoys watching sports, playing tennis and golf and spending time outdoors.
