Lincoln County moves to 2-0 on the season and will travel to East Jessamine next Friday night. After the game, Coach Levi Rogers said, “We came out ready to play tonight.”
Tucker Julian was named the WPBK-FM InterCounty Energy Lineman of the game and Tucker Foster was the Guardian Exterminating and B-Green Lawn Care Player of the Game. Damon Spigle (126 yards rushing) was named the bowl game MVP, the same honor he won last week in the Death Valley Bowl.
Estill won the coin toss but deferred their choice to the second half. Lincoln County got the ball first at their own 35-yard line after a 25-yard kick return by Bob Floyd. Kash Smith ran 25 yards on the first play, then got 5 more yards on the second play from scrimmage.
After an incomplete pass, a catch by Bob Floyd, then a run by Damon Spigle, the Patriots were inside the 20-yard line at the seventeen. Runs by Damon Spgle and Damon Foster got the ball to the 9-yard line. From there Damon Spigle took it to the distance with 9:08 left in the 1st quarter. Brody Baker added the PAT kick and Lincoln County led 7-0
Estill came right back. They started on their own 35-yard line and marched the ball down the field with passes. The drive culminated in a fourth-down 26-yard pass from Brody Mainous to Chance East-Rawlins with 5:09 to play in the first quarter. Seth Hurst kicked the PAT to tie the game at 7-7.
Lincoln County’s second possession started at their own 25-yard line after the kickoff. A combination of passing and rushing moved the ball to the Estill County 32-yard line. There, Tucker Foster scrambled from his quarterback position and raced 32-yards for the touchdown with 1:25 left in the first period. Brody Baker kicked his second PAT and Lincoln led 14-7.
On their ensuing possession, Estill County was whistled for a holding penalty, and their drive stalled out. They punted to the Lincoln County 36-yard line. Lincoln County also stalled out and punted back to Estil County.
The Engineers got the ball back at their own 34-yard line but could not move it. In punt formation, the snap sailed over the punter’s head all the way back to the two- yard line. On the next play, Damon Spigle crashed into the endzone for his second touchdown of the night with 9:50 to play in the 2nd quarter. Brody Baker connected on his third PAT and Lincoln County led 21-7.
On the following kickoff, the Patriots executed an onside kick and got the ball back at their own 46-yard line when it was recovered by Damon Spigle. They moved the ball down the field, including a 10-yard pass from Foster to Johnny Adkins, and a pass interference call against Estill County when Bob Floyd was held while breaking on a long pass. That set Lincoln up at the Estill 15-yard line. From there, Damon Spigle ran it down to the three-yard line. On the next play, Spigle got it inside the one-yard line. Tucker Foster finished it with a 1-yard run with 6:17 to play in the first half. Brody Baker made his 4th PAT, and the Patriot lead grew to 28-7.
Estill County started from their own 40-yard line after the ensuing pooch kick. They had a long pass to the Lincoln County 20-yard line, but a holding penalty nullified it. The drive stalled after that, and Estill County ended up punting.
Lincoln County started from its own 18-yard line. Short runs and passes, plus a 15-yard run by Tucker Foster, helped move the ball down the field, but an unsportsmanlike penalty pushed the Patriots backwards to their own 36-yrd line. Tucker Foster ran for 5 yards on third down and thirty-five yards to go, and the Patriots were forced to punt from their own 41-yard line.
The Tucker Foster punt was partially blocked, giving Estill County good field position at the Lincoln County 47-yard line. A pass interference call put the ball on the Lincoln County 36-yard line. Then, a pass moved it to the 24-yard line, but a holding call nullified it.
That pushed the ball back to the 34-yard line and after a few runs, Estill was facing a 4th down at the Lincoln County 31-yard line. An incomplete pass gave the Patriots the ball there with 54 seconds left in the half. Lincoln County ran one play and let the clock expire.
Lincoln County kicked to start the second half. After a short kick, Estill County started moving the ball down the field but were stopped on the Lincoln County 35-yard line when Justin Mounce recovered a fumble with 9:07 left in the third quarter.
On the next play, Damon Spigle ran for 8 yards and then Foster threw a deep incomplete pass. On third-and-short, Foster ran seven yards for a first down. Two plays later, they picked up another first down on a pass to Clay Pendygraft.
A penalty pushed Lincoln backwards, but Brennin Hazlett got most of it back with a 15-yard reception. On the next play, Reed Curlis sprinted 18 yards for a score with 3:43 to play in the third quarter. Brody Baker kicked his fifth PAT and Lincoln County led 35-7.
On the next possession, Estill County was driving when Tucker Julian intercepted a pass and returned it to the Estill County 46-yard line. An offensive pass interference call pushed Lincoln County back to their own 37-yard. The drive stalled and Lincoln County punted.
Estill County started from their own 40-yard line and moved the ball down the field and scored on a three-yard run by quarterback Brody Mainous. Hurst added the kick, and the Lincoln County lead was cut to 35-14. Estill County kicked onside after the touchdown but Lincoln County was awarded the ball after it was initially given to Estill County.
Lincoln County moved the ball, keeping the drive alive on a fourth-down-and-eight reception by Bob Floyd at the Estill County 38-yard line. Two plays later, Damon Spigle broke through the line and raced 34 yards to the endzone for his third touchdown of the game with 4:11 left in the game. Brody Baker kicked his sixth PAT and Lincoln County led 42-14.
Estill County tried to respond after the kickoff, driving down inside the five yard but the Mainous pass to the endzone was intercepted by Bob Floyd. Lincoln County ended the game in the victory formation.
